The horrible Condition of God’s people vs. 8-14
What we learn from this passage is that the seed of the enemy is always plotting to destroy God’s promise and God’s people. How do we as God’s people respond to living in a dark world? What is needed a right fear of God that would lead our lives. In the face of oppression, slavery, and infanticide we see the fear of God on display in the most unlikely of people.
The Fear God is seen in Common people. vs. 15-16
God uses everyday people no matter their status. The fear of God is seen in the lives and actions of these midwives. The Lord chooses to use common people to do great things for His glory! Acts 4
The Fear of God leads to Courageous choices. vs. 17
These ladies chose to fear God more than the edict given by the Pharaoh. This was a costly choice, but it was no brainer for these ladies. The only way to overcome the fear man is a right fear of God. Prov. 3:7; Josh. 24:14; Heb. 11:23
The Fear of God is what is Commended by God. vs.18-21
How does God care for these women?
God gives them wisdom in their response. God blessed the nation because of their choice.
God blessed them personally! He gave them family and children! He made them mothers! God honors those who fears His name! Ps. 25:14; 33:18-19
The Fear of God is Called for in all of life. vs. 22
Pharaoh had privately plotted to destroy Israel and failed. Now he goes public with is plan. He turns to all the Egyptians to kill all the first-born sons of the Hebrews. The battle will rage on, and what is needed is for God’s people to fear Him and choose to obey Him no matter what! Eccl. 12:13-14
Application:
– Do you fear the Lord, or do you fear man more?
– Do your choices reflect a godly fear?
– Do you believe that God will take care of you?
