I.Moses fears lead to his objections to God’s calling. vs. 1,10,13
– They won’t believe or listen to me vs.1, Moses remembers his past and it
speaks loud to him.
– I don’t speak well vs. 10, Moses knew his inability to speak well.
– I don’t want to go, please send someone else vs.13, Moses shows his
unbelief, this is the heart of the matter. What is revealed here is that Moses did
not want to go back to Egypt. Moses is seeing his call in light of his
circumstances.
II.God answers Moses patiently, powerfully, and providentially.vs. 2-9,11-12, 14-17
– The LORD provides three signs (snake, leprosy, and the Nile) to Moses that
demonstrate God’s power, authority over all of Egypt! These supernatural signs
also spoke to Moses in a way that would show him clearly that God is the all
sufficient one who is able to deliver His people.
– The staff of Moses will serve as “the Rod of God”. God turns into a snake, a
sign of authority.
– The leprosy of the hand demonstrated God’s complete power over what was
incurable during that time.
– God reminds Moses with a question, who is the creator and is He not
sufficient? Who is God?
– God reassures Moses of His providence. I am sending your brother Aaron the
Levite out to meet you. God had Aaron already ready to be used by Him. Now
take your staff Moses and go and do what I say.
What should you learn from God calling Moses?
You are insufficient but your God is able! Acknowledge your inability and trust in God’s sufficiency! This is where salvation begins!
It is God who initiates the call to salvation! He calls and reveals himself.
It is God who calls you to serve Him in His kingdom! He is the King, submit.
It is God who calls us to serve together for His glory! We are not alone.
It is God who provides all that is needed in His service! His provision is sufficient.
