The cry of Israel is met with the providential compassion of our good and gracious God who is abounding with steadfast love and faithfulness. May we be reminded today that our God hears, remembers, sees, and knows all about us and our situation and He alone has acted to deliver us from our greatest enemy!

o   Our God Hears His people cry out. vs. 23-24a

– This final section of chapter two we see a shift from the person of Moses to the people of God. The Israelites are now on the threshold of God’s powerful saving acts because the oppression and slavery that they have experienced by the Egyptians.

Truth takeaway: Our God is not distant to the cries of His people. But He hears everything because of who He is. How comforting it is to be reminded that God hears the cries of all His children. Ps. 34:7

o   Our God Remembers His covenant. vs. 24b

– God remembers his covenant to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and their descendants. The formal establishment of the covenant with Abraham, God tells him about this very time when his descendants will cry out in Egypt. Gen 15:13-14Given these promises, God had to remember, He could not forget His people in Egypt.

Truth takeaway: Now what about us? Has God not also said to us I will never leave you nor will I forsake you! If you are believer in Christ, your life is hidden in Him and therefore you are safe! This is the glorious reality of the New Covenant that is found in Christ Jesus. God will deliver on all His promises. Heb. 8:10-12

o   Our God Sees His people’s circumstances. vs. 25a

– God sees all that happens to Israel – the slavery under which they suffer, the murder of their children – as well as the further oppression that is coming. Ps. 94:7

Truth takeaway: Be encouraged that you are not forgotten, God not only hears you, but your God always sees you where you are at as well. He is a good Father and He will provide in His time. What a hope that this truth gives us! Be patient in your suffering for it is only for a little while.

o   Our God Knows His people intimately. vs. 25b

-Exodus 2 ends by saying ,God “knew” the Israelites. The verb to “know” speaks of an intimate personal relationship. God is not distant for His people, He knows exactly what oppression they are facing, he knows their labor, sighs, groaning and He will deliver them very soon.

Truth takeaway: God is close to their situation as He is to ours because He knows us! You are known by God and He is running the universe for our good and His glory! Heb. 2:17-18; 4:15-16
