One the most essential doctrines in the Bible is the Incarnation of Christ. With the celebration of
Christmas just days away we focus this morning on remembering and celebrating the why of Christmas.
What is the doctrine of the Incarnation and is it essential to our faith?
The Incarnation of Christ is a central Christian doctrine that God became flesh, assumed a human nature,
and became a man in the form of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the second person of the Trinity.
“And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, begotten of the Father (the only begotten; that is, of the
essence of the Father, God of God), Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten not made, being of one
substance with the Father.” The Nicene Creed
Why should you believe the in the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ?
- Because the Bible says so! The Word of God is the truth we trust! Is. 7:14; Matt.1:23; Lk 1:31-34
- If you reject the virgin birth, you are rejecting the authority and validity of God and His Word.
This will inevitably call into question the reliability of all other doctrines.
Why was the Incarnation/Virgin Birth essential and necessary for our redemption?
- To reveal the godly origin and the supernatural nature of our salvation. John 1:1-3;14
- To provide the means for Christ’s humanity without an inherited sin nature. Rom 5:12
- To make possible the uniting of full deity and full humanity. John 8:37-38
Why was Jesus’ humanity necessary? - To be the sacrificial substitute for us. Gal. 4:4-5
- To become the one and only mediator between God and man. 1 Tim. 2:15
- To be our sympathetic high priest. Heb. 4:14-16
Why was Jesus’ Deity Necessary? - Because only one who is infinite and Holy could atone for finite sinful man. Heb. 1:1-14
- Because only God has the power to conquer death and the grave. Col. 1:15-22
- Because only the one who conquered death has the power to give eternal life. Jn.10:11,17-18,28-30
Application: WORSHIP! Praise Christ Jesus the LORD who was the virgin born, Son of God, Son of
Man, the only God Man who has come and purchased and secured our redemption! Phil. 2:3-9
