Death and despair loom large in the hearts of Israel families, but what we will see is our sovereign God is at work bringing a savior to deliver them from heavy handed oppression of Pharaoh and the Egyptians. The book of Exodus encourages us with the truth that God sovereignly saves His people according to His promises for His glory. The Lord shows His sovereign goodness in very unexpected ways as we will see this morning in our text. We won’t see God mentioned but we see His hidden hand everywhere!
See an ordinary couple’s faithfulness to have a child. vs. 1
See the blessing of a healthy baby boy. vs. 2
See the mother’s heart wrenching trust in the providence of God.vs. 3
See the sister of the baby watching from a distance. vs. 4
See the pity taken by Pharaoh’s own daughter. vs. 5-6
See the providential return of a son vs. 7-9
See the name that points to their deliverance. vs. 10
The Main Point of Application: Do you see that what seems like a series of coincidences in the life of Moses are not. They are not, there is the hidden hand of the Sovereign God who is good and gracious and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness toward His people for His glory!
– Remember that God is faithfully at work for the good of His people even
when life is the darkest. Remember that God has kept and will keep all
His promises to His people.
– Remember that after another period of 400 years of silence at just the
right time, another baby was also born in a dark hour. Jesus Christ the
long-awaited Messiah came to deliverer us from our sin! Gal. 4:4; Mark 10:45
How does knowing that God is Sovereign strengthen our faith today?
– It leads us to earnest prayer, it gives us courage when life is dark, it
gives us hope because we know God will always fulfill his promises and is
faithful all the time, it gives us confidence for the future, for our future is
secured in Christ. It gives us a healthy perspective to our life. Our lives
are in His hands. The Israelites had no clue what was happening to them
for those 430 years and neither do we today but listen, they would be
delivered by Moses, and we are as well by our great deliverer and captain
of our salvation, Jesus Christ. Do you know Him?
